Baby dedication
Imma's dedication at church last Sunday went pretty well, considering we were back stage for a good hour before it started. She was a little cranky but I can't blame her. When she finally got out on stage, she really wanted down so she could show the congregation her mad drumming skills. Daddy didn't let her down.
Some of our good friends were able to come and celebrate with us. Thanks to Dawn and Phillip and Alex and her daughter Abby for helping us make Imma's special day even more memorable.
Dawn took these pictures for us at the church after the dedication. Imma needed a reward for her "not-so-horrible" behavior--cookies!

Help--my baby broke my finger!
Can I blame this on pregnancy brain?
On Saturday, Dec. 19, I slammed my pointer finger on my left hand in the dryer door. It is broken at the first knuckle and is missing most of the skin on the left side of it, around the break, not all the way to the bone but pretty deep. So it has been really hard to type, thus making blogging pretty difficult. My Christmas posts will be mostly pictures. :)

Teacher Conference
Today was our first ever parent-teacher conference when I was playing the role of "parent" and not"teacher." It was odd to be on the other side of the desk!
I told Imma's teacher about the report we got from ECI. I asked her about some of the things I wasn't able to discuss yesterday that maybe she would know since she sees Imma interacting with other kids. Some of the things that I told them I didn't know about she has actually seen Imma do, so that was nice. But there are still a lot of areas on her progress report still marked as "Not mastered." These are things that should be mastered by the end of the year so I wasn't too upset that she hasn't mastered all of them. Also, some of the things she doesn't do at school, she definitely does at home--like "completes a 4-5 piece puzzle." Uhm, everyday when she gets home she does a 52 piece puzzle so I know she can do that!
I was having a really rough time with the report yesterday (if you couldn't tell) but I also found out today just how much support we really have down here. Our prayer group prayed for Imma this morning (which made me bawl), my good friends were ready with hugs, and one of my co-workers who has been kinda like a mom to me the last yearish had so many supportive things to say over lunch today. It was really helpful and it made me realize that just because my real family is far away, it doesn't mean that we don't have the love and support we need when we are going through a rough time.
I also got a call from our church today. I have been trying to get Imma signed up for this week's Baby Dedication service this Sunday for a couple of months and they couldn't find our form. I'd been told we couldn't get her in this time. But I got a call today that she was added and we will be able to do the dedication Sunday. I'm really happy about this. I was beginning to feel like nothing was going right for my little Angel. So, if you live around here and you want to come on Sunday, it will be at the 11:00 service at Cottonwood Creek Baptist. Please let me know you're coming--we'd love to have some friends in the audience. It's a great church, though very, very big by my little Missouri country-church standards.
Last thing. Any of you who know Imma know that she does not name body parts. For literally years now we have been asking, "Imma, where's your nose? Where's your nose Imma? Imma, Imma? etc." Tonight she accidentally poked me in the eyebrow and said, "eye-bwowo!" Of all the body parts to start with. . . . but I will take it!

Speech concerns confirmed
Imma was evaluated by Early Childhood Intervention today. At her six month check-up the doctor mentioned that she thought she should be speaking more and I had also noticed that she didn't seem to be talking as well as some of her friends. We decided to give her a little bit of time and see if she caught up by herself. When she started school in August, I spoke to her teachers about it and a lot of them said that she wasn't really talking at all at school. Well, we finally had ECI come out and do their full evaluation and Imma does qualify for speech services, as well as some of the other services they offer. I was really surprised to hear that they qualified her in some of the other areas but they said that those are so tied in to her speach that it is difficult to determine if cognitive issues are caused by the delay in speech or the speech is just making it difficult to determine her cognitive abilities. It didn't help that the evaluation was late in the afternoon and she was very cranky and disagreeable. So she will begin getting services pretty soon.
This is pretty hard for me to take both as a mother and a teacher. You try to do everything you can to make sure your kids are well prepared. They say breastmilk is supposed to help cognitive development. Well, she had that until she was eight months old, much longer than most kids I know. I also took Lipil along with my pre-nate religiously before she was conceived, the whole time I was pregnant, and the whole time she was still getting breastmilk. I read to her, I talked to her, I did all of the things they say you are supposed to do and yet she still "chooses not to speak." I have such a beautiful, creative, intelligent little girl but a state agency just told me she is functioning up to 11 months behind where she should be!
If anyone else has had a similar experience, I would love to hear about it, especially if it has a happy ending. I just wish I knew what changes, if any, I need to make this time to make sure my second kiddo doesn't have similar issues.

School Pageant--sort of
I'm having all kinds of blogger issues tonight. We'll see how this goes!
Imma had her first Christmas pageant tonight at school. The two year olds sang a lovely rendition of Twinkle Twinkle, the three year olds sang Rudolph, and the four year olds danced to Jingle Bell Rock.
Imma sat on my lap and clapped.
I guess she is practicing to be a cheerleader, not a performer. I would have been up there hamming it up. Sometimes I wonder if I'm really her mother. . . .
But she's my girl and I will support her in whatever she chooses to do.
The pictures, needless to say, are of the outfit she wore to the pageant but not the pageant itself.
I love Imma's expression in this picture. Brian was trying to get her to sit still so we could take her picture.
This started an international incident of Christmas tree ornament-stealing that is still causing controversy around the world. Okay, not really but "no touch" seems to mean nothing!

Birthday party and Christmas tree
"Look at my pretty fairy-princess hair!"
This weekend, Imma had a birthday party at Sugar and Spice on the square in McKinney. Well, it wasn't her birthday party! She was a guest though. It was very cute. All of the girls dressed up like fairies--except for Imma. She dressed up like Imma with her hair done. And refused to get off of Mommy's lap. But it was a really cute party and she did get to eat cake--which is a rarity for her. She usually doesn't make it to cake. These are picturs of her once we came home. See the cute blue flower in her hair? If you are planning a party for a little princess any time soon, I suggest you look into Sugar and Spice. Thanks for inviting us Lily!
Yesterday, we went to a Christmas tree farm to pick out our first live Christmas Tree! We already have three (uhm, yeah, three) fake Christmas trees but I really wanted a live one for our back porch. So, Brian finally (reluctantly) agreed and off we went!
We went to a Christmas tree farm in Van Alstyne. First, we went on a hay ride out to the Christmas tree lot.
It was cold out there!
Then, we picked out a tree and Dada cut it down.
And then they hauled it back to the little store where you pay and we threw it in the back of the truck and took it home! Now all I have to do is get some lights and it will be ready to go!

Thanksgiving story
If someone embarrassed you in a restaurant by doing the following:
1) compared you to someone you've never met and told you that she is a better mother, student, and harder worker than you
2) told you look "terrible" and "exhausted"
3) told you you should not work after your seventh month of pregnancy because you obviously can't handle that
4) wouldn't stop when you asked her to so you had to walk out of the restaurant
5) proceeded to yell, literally run around the restaurant, while screaming profanities and disowning your family
and then
6) called two weeks later and accused you of abusing your child because you yanked her out of her high chair so quickly
Would you ever want to speak to that person again?
I didn't think so!

Help--my baby is trying to kill me!
I am feeling pretty lousy today. I think the baby is trying to see just how green mommy's face can become. I really wish I could go home and go to sleep instead of working but that's really not an option since I need to save my days for maternity leave.
Dr. B. gave me some new medicine for morning sickness but I don't think it is working. It says it could take up to two weeks to work. Hello! By then I might be just fine. Hopefully it will not take that long to work.
Imma came home from school yesterday whistling. She was doing it backwards (sucking in instead of blowing out) but it was very cute. She will probably be a much better whistler than I am. If I lived in NYC, I would never be able to get a cab.

First Doctor's Appointment for Imma's Sib
We had our first doctor's appointment for the new baby today. Everything looks great. The baby was measuring at 4.6mm, which is a lot bigger than Imma was about a week later than this baby. Dr. B. said everything looks good though. I will try to post the ultra sound pictures tomorrow. We actually got to hear the baby's heartbeat, too, which I wasn't expecting. It was 120 beats per minute.
The only bad part was that we had to wait in the waiting room for a very long time!
I go back to the doctor on Monday Dec. 28th.
This morning we woke up to snow flurries! It was actually coming down very hard for a few minutes. Imma was amazed. She said "it bootiful!" And if you know Imma, that's saying a lot. She did not like walking in to school with it hitting her in the head though. She was pretty upset about getting her hair all wet.

So, I started a blog!
I have been thinking about starting a blog for about a year now. One of my good friends has a blog and I started reading hers last fall. From there, I started reading a few other blogs, and then I decided I needed one myself!
Now that I am expecting my second child, I am hoping my friends and family can use this blog to stay updated. However, as the title suggests, I also plan to use this as a forum to journal the events of my two year old's life as well.
Now, I just have to figure out how to make my blog as cool as everyone elses!
